About
A small filing service that doesn't sell you anything you don't need.
Start LLC is two things in one: a plain-English library of state-by-state LLC guides, and a $49 flat filing service for when you'd rather hand the paperwork off than do it yourself.
The pitch
Forming an LLC is something almost any small business owner can do themselves in a few hours. The state's filing portal will accept your Articles of Organization for the cost of the state filing fee — usually $50 to $200 — and you'll have an LLC. We wrote a guide for every state explaining exactly how to do it.
If you'd rather not learn the filing portal yourself, we'll do it for $49 flat plus your state's filing fee. That's the entire offer. We don't have premium tiers, "fast-track" upsells, or compliance packages. We don't auto-bundle a registered agent into the price (because most people can be their own RA for free).
What $49 covers
- We file your Articles of Organization with your state's filing office.
- We confirm name availability before submitting so you don't pay only to have the state reject the filing.
- We email you the stamped certificate when the state approves the filing.
That's it. The $49 doesn't include EIN service (free at irs.gov, takes 5 minutes), doesn't include a registered agent (be your own for free, or use any service), and doesn't include an operating agreement (free templates work for most single-member LLCs).
What we offer separately, optional
- Registered agent service — $99/year if you'd rather not put your home address on the public record. Cancel anytime; no lock-in.
- EIN application — we can do this for you, but honestly, you can do it yourself in 10 minutes at irs.gov. We'll show you how in the EIN guide.
Not a law firm
Start LLC is a document filing service. We don't give legal or tax advice. If your situation is unusual — multi-state operations, foreign ownership, complex equity structures — please talk to an attorney or CPA who can advise on the specifics.
About state filing times
Each state's filing office processes new LLCs on its own schedule. Some are same-day (Wyoming, Colorado on a good week); some are weeks (California, sometimes Illinois). We submit within a business day of your filing request — the state takes whatever it takes. Your state guide links to the official state filing portal where current processing times are published.
